Meet the team

Karele is an equine community and registered charity in the heart of East Lothian. Over the years, we have grown into an incredible team of 30 people from ages 13 to 60.

Our love of horses unites us.

The Fergusons

At the heart of our story are the Fergusons. Their lifelong passion for horses, and a commitment to helping others, was the inspiration for Karele. Their hard work and dedication have made Karele into the community it is today.

The Young Ambassadors

Our young volunteers created the young ambassadors as a group to help new clients and each other. Aged between 13-17, the young ambassadors members are all previous service users who want to provide the life-changing opportunities that Karele offers. The Saddle Club

Run by our young ambassadors, volunteers and Head girls. We encourage everyone at Karele to join our equine community. Starting from age 5-15yrs, including differentiation depending on age and experience. The saddle club offers a setting for individuals to relax and explore their love for the equine world .Learning everything equine from grooming, stable management, riding to making new horsey friends.

The Hub

The heart of Karele. . Our horse barn and tack room doesn’t seem like the typical location for exclusive mental health work and learning when actually it is the perfect place . Our hub gives opportunity to pause, relax and have fun. .All in a safe and nurturing place. Our hub is the unique place where we all come together to plan, fundraise, or just have a cup of tea.

KARELE is a registered Scottish charity offering Equine-Facilitated Activities and Learning to children, young people and adults to support their mental health and well-being. We offer a flexible volunteer programme at Karele - get involved, spend time with the horses you love and contribute to a great cause.
